SUMMARY:POSTPONED\, RESCHEDULE TBD: Artist Amplified; Colby Charpentier
DESCRIPTION:In Person or Streaming Online! \n\n\n\nPOSTPONED\, RESCHEDULE TBD:Join us at The Bray as long term Resident and Visions West Fellow Colby Chapentier shares insight into his artistic practice and research.  My studio research is centered around intentionally misunderstanding the world so that I can break the frame and reintroduce myself to what I know…I prioritize research over producing product. While a lot of my work uses the vessel format\, I’m not interested in making the same pot twice. I use an iterative approach so I can get all the “what-ifs” out into space\, and then deal with them. Once I’ve framed a question\, it’s time to hit the studio and build a process to investigate it. The process of making is how I ask and answer questions. The objects I produce are a residue of this process. \n\n\n\nOur newly revamped Artist Amplified lecture and demonstration series allows artists and art enthusiasts to share their history\, process\, and conceptual motivations with the public through various presentation formats. We can’t wait to discover what Colby has to share! \n\n\n\nPOSTPONED\, RESCHEDULE TBD: IN-PERSON: Let us Know You’re Coming!  Doing so helps us prepare\, but more importantly\, helps us secure funding that makes this series possible. Thank you in advance for taking the time to register! \n\n\n\nPOSTPONED\, RESCHEDULE TBD: JOIN VIRTUALLY! (Link goes live at the time of the event) \n\n\n\nWant to learn more about Sponsorship opportunities? Email education@archiebray.org \n\n\n\nAbout The Presenter \n\n\n\nColby grew up in Smithfield\, RI and received his MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2021\, and his BFA in Ceramics and Glass from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2013. From 2013-2016\, he worked as a studio assistant to artists Daniel Clayman and Chris Gustin. He has since completed residencies at Sonoma Ceramics in Sonoma\, CA\, The Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg\, FL\, Harvard Ceramics at Harvard University in Allston\, MA\, and Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading\, PA. SUMMARY:Experience Class; Sgraffito Inside\, Identity Vessels
DESCRIPTION:This class is for anyone looking to expand on their surface decorating techniques\, explore narrative hand built forms\, or get their hands in clay for the first time! We will be drawing inspiration from the work of Grayson Perry to talk about the ways personal histories and identities can be represented on ceramics. We’ll make small hand built pots\, and carve through layers of slips and underglaze to create fine lines and imagery that expresses the self. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re looking to experience clay for the first time or are seeking a fun filled creative activity — our Experience Classes offer hands-on learning for a variety of student types\, abilities\, and interests. Works made will be ready for pick up 2 weeks following your class. SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Visiting Artist\, Paolo Porelli
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Frances Senska Center for Education and Engagement for this free public artist lecture featuring Bray Visiting Artist Paolo Porelli. See Porelli’s works in person at the Holter Art Museum for his exhibition Figure Out; Catastrophe or Regeneration from July 28th – September 29th. \n\n\n\nAbout the exhibition: Proelli presents a sculptural group of about 60 ceramic “figurines” that reveal a great deal about the reality of our times but that go beyond and enter the timeless dimension of myth and archetype. The figurines represent the variety of human behavior\, and opposing poles of existence\, some generating and others destructive. Will there be a catastrophe or a regeneration? \n\n\n\nUse this link to join virtually

DESCRIPTION:Join local area artist\, former Long Term Resident Artist and Visiting Artist Sarah Jaeger for the return of Speaking of Pots.  This delightful conversation-based series is free\, open to the public and operates intending to increase knowledge and awareness of handmade pottery to any curious mind\, no matter experience or background. Please note this is a volunteer-run program. \n\n\n\n“I love to talk about pots with other makers\, and with non-makers who just love pots. This series of conversations offer an opportunity to consider any aspect of pots (form\, surface\, materials\, techniques\, aesthetics\, intention\, etc.) and to share ideas\, and answer questions. It’s often the case that we get so involved in our process of making\, that we don’t step back\, and ask\, “Why?” Or\, “What do I want to say?” These conversations can help us look at the bigger picture\, learn how to really see the pots we are making\, or simply clarify some technical questions we have had.”  –  Sarah Jaeger on the Speaking of Pots series
