APPROACHING CLAY THE BEGINNERS WAY

One of the beauties of clay is its infinite avenues of discovery, but this can easily and quickly become overwhelming to beginning students. Worry not, as Approaching Clay The Beginners Way was developed to narrow in on the realm of possibilities. Join recent Educational Assistantship participant, Janette Torres, as she guides you through the basics of hand building and glazing possibilities. Discover how to leverage slabs to create one of a kind functional wares and sculptures. Next learn various techniques for layering and applying glazes to create organic and unique patterns. From tableware and functional home goods to basic figurative sculptures, it's all possible in this beginning clay class!

THROWN AND ALTERED
Tuesdays 6-9pm (Feb 20 - April 30, *no class 3/19*)
Instructor: Austin Coudriet
Join long term Resident Artist and Frazza Fellow Austin Coudriet in this intermediate level class to discover an entirely new way of making pottery on the wheel! Learn how to alter vessels and wheel thrown parts by combining them with hand building techniques and hand built forms. Discuss different shapes, silhouettes, compositions and throwing styles to elevate your skills to the next level!

Through image-based discussions, self-directed ceramic projects, and by learning how to select, evaluate and fully utilize our very own John C. Board Library resources, you'll learn to expand your horizons and push your work to the next level. Hand builders and wheel-throwers alike are welcome!

Join Long-Term Resident Artist and Bray Fellow Laura Dirksen in this expansive course and challenge your understanding of the expression of clay and its innate ability to become virtually anything! Learn to apply techniques delivered through engaging exercises designed to generate new concepts and forms suited to the interests of your existing practice.
