Resident Programs

Through summer and long-term studio experiences, The Bray Resident Artist Program offers an unprecedented opportunity to work within a community of global artists actively creating new work.

At The Bray, artists from around the world with a vast range of experiences and diverse aesthetic approaches, cultures and perspectives come together.

Residents of The Bray have the opportunity to be in community with other makers to share discoveries, frustrations and triumphs, and work together over an extended period of time. Studio experiences at The Bray are as varied and unique as the individuals involved.

The Resident Program establishes life-long friendships and connections that open new paths, develop careers, and change lives.

The Bray Resident Artist Program engages a timeline based on the artists’ needs:

  • Summer Residencies are up to 90 days, June-August
  • Long-term Residencies are one year with an option to apply for a second year

Why The Bray Residency Program may be for you:

  • Experiment with a new conceptual approach
  • Create a new series of work
  • Collaborate with other artists
  • Explore new glazing and building techniques
  • Transition from school to establishing a studio practice
  • Develop a portfolio for graduate school
  • Escape from daily routine to recharge creative enthusiasm

Applications

How to Apply
  • Applications are open September through the application deadline December 19.

Each spring new residents are selected by The Bray's Director and a rotating jury of two other ceramic artists.

Selections are based on:

  • Quality of the work
  • Artistic merit
  • How the Residency Program may benefit the artist and their larger community
  • Diversity in practice of the prospective group (work, background, stage of career development) *The diversity of the group is very important; ie: an undergraduate doing figurative sculpture may be working next to a retired professor making functional pots, and each will learn from and teach the other.
