Jonathan Read, 2011–2012 Lilian Fellow, 2012–2013 Windgate Fellow
summer resident 2010, long-term resident 2011–2013

Jonathan Read received his MFA in ceramics from Arizona State University in 2005.  Jonathan was a member of the faculty at Lill Street Art Center in Chicago, Illinois and at The Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona where he was the ceramic artist-in-residence in 2005 and 2006.  Jonathan taught sculpture at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida in 2010-2011 where he was also artist-in-residence. He has exhibited his work nationally as well as internationally at the Museum of Applied Art in Vienna, Austria and at Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China.  Currently, Jonathan is a 2012–2013 Windgate Fellow at the Bray, he received the 2011 Lilian Fellowship and was also a summer resident in 2010.

“I make sculpture, installations and drawings that attempt to freeze in time the moments in life where personal reflections collide with self-definition.  I construct visually soft figurative forms that translate as easily recognizable human postures. The forms encourage viewers to create a parallel relationship with my work while the dynamic drawings on the surface create an energized yet comfortable language, which establishes mood.  This language creates a deeper narrative that connects the mental condition to the figure itself."
